YUAG catalogue note: This candlestand was sold at Sotheby's, New York, November 18–20, 1976 (lot 960). Three surviving objects bear the label or mark of William King; in addition to this candlestand, these include a serpentine-front chest of drawers sold at Christie's on January 24, 2014 (sale 2815, lot 135), and a demilune card table sold at Skinner, Inc., in Bolton, Massachusetts on August 12, 2000 (lot 131). Additionally, a chest of drawers in the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts features similarly canted corners and a gadrooned base, and is attributed to King (object M11444). - Variant Titles:
