Each door of the center compartment bears the label of William Whitehead, reading "William Whitehead / Cabinet & Chair Maker / No. 75 / Pearl Street / New York"; Whitehead was at this address from 1794–1799. A distinctive detail is the double teardrop inlay under each diamond escutcheon; this feature, plus closely related bellflower inlay, can be seen in the great serpentine sideboard in the Karolik collection.
