Sack catalogue description: Chippendale walnut tall clock, a chef d'ouvre of a Philadelphia or Germantown artisan, the highly competent carving blends harmoniously with the well proportioned case and no element is superfluous to the design; the applied scrollboard carving is centered by a pierced shell from which emanates vine carving, the scrollboard carving, the cartouche, flame finials and rosette terminals are original, the waist door is crested by a concave carved shell and scrolled volutes flanked by fluted quarter columns with brass capitals on scroll-carved plinths; ogee bracket feet, the hood encloses a brass moon phase dial with chased brass spandrels and brass eight-day works. The superbly designed case is closely related to the handsome tall clock from the Taradash collection, with works by Jacob Godshalk, Towamencin, Montgomery county, adjoining Philadelphia; illustrated in American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, vol. 5, pp. 1164–1165, pl. 4025.
