Notes:: Sack catalogue description: Chippendale San Domingan mahogany slant-top desk, bracket feet with scrolled inner outline, stepped interior; the upper row of drawers of blocked serpentine outline, centered by a row of three concave blocked drawers, the upper drawer with carved fan and flanked by pilasters; the writing and drawing on the document drawers illustrated not only establishes Henry Rust as the maker of this desk in 1770, but also as a primitive artist and poet. The inscription reads, "This desk Made By Henry Rust of Salem / Salem, New England / One Thousand seven Hundred and Seventy."
