Notes:: The book “Ca trù thể cách” is a collection of Ca Trù songs also known as “Hát ả đào” or “Hát nói”. Like many Vietnamese arts, Ca Trù started off as being a form of entertainment for the royal court. Officially, Ca Tru has counted the age of its profession since the Later Lý dynasty (1010-1225). At that time, musicians were called to perform “hát khuôn” in the religious court ceremonies. Later on, it branched out to become entertainment at small inns for wealthy and other members of the elite class who enjoyed the genre, which was somehow inaccessible to the masses. Ca trù has many forms. However, the most widely known and performed type of ca trù involves only three performers: the female vocalist, a lute player, and a spectator (who also takes part in the performance). Ca Trù is the most clever combination between poetry and music.
Cuốn "Ca trù thể cách" tổng hợp các bài hát ca trù hay còn được gọi là Hát Ả Đào hay Hát Nói. Giống như nhiều loại nghệ thuật khác của Việt Nam, ca trù bắt đầu như là một hình thức giải trí cho vương triều. Nó chính thức ra đời vào thời hậu Lý (1010-1225). Tại thời điểm đó, nhạc sĩ được gọi đến để thực hiện "Hát Khuôn" trong các nghi lễ tôn giáo của triều đình. Sau đó, nó được phổ biến rộng rãi hơn, trở thành một hình thức giải trí tại các quán nhỏ cho những người giàu có và những người thuộc tầng lớp thượng lưu đến mua vui. Người dân thường không tiếp cận được. Ca trù có nhiều hình thức. Tuy nhiên, hình thức được ưa chuộng và phổ biến rộng rãi nhất liên quan đến ba người: Một nữ ca sĩ (gọi là "đào" hay "ca nương") sử dụng bộ phách gõ lấy nhịp, một nhạc công nam giới (gọi là "kép") chơi đàn đáy phụ họa theo tiếng hát, người thưởng ngoạn (gọi là "quan viên", thường là tác giả bài hát) đánh trống chầu chấm câu và biểu lộ chỗ đắc ý bằng tiếng trống. Ca trù là sự kết hợp thông minh nhất giữa thơ ca và âm nhạc.
