Knight Templar

500 AD - 1499 AD - Notes:
- One of the important figures of the Knights Templar, the Duke of Burgundy is in a long, semicircular cape gathered into a neckband and fastened on one shoulder. The necklace represents the Order of the Golden Fleece.
- Abstract:
- The houppelande for men is similar to the women's. A high-boned collar is the primary difference. It too is pleated into pipelike folds and belts just above the waist. Long funnel sleeves are lined in fur, finished with dagging, or both. The jerkin is an important new short garment. Thigh length, it is square in cut and pulls on over the head. Fullness is pleated into the waistline and centered at the front and back. Pleats are pipelike and probably controlled by an inner belt. An open, standing collar with rounded corners contrasts in color with the garment. Sleeves are long and tubelike and gathered into the armscye. The doublet is still popular. The journade grows in popularity as an overgarment. A new coat of oriental influence, the simar opens down the front. It is long, widens at the bottom, and has long tubular sleeves.
