1850 AD - 1899 AD - Notes:
- Military uniforms show a new trimness. Some coat skirts are now turned back at the corners and buttoned to the coat. False lapels of a contrasting color are added to many uniforms.
- Abstract:
- The wig is always dressed away from the face. Back hair is tied with a bow. Side hair is arranged over the ears in one or two curls. After 1780 wigs are often unpowdered. For court occasions the powdered wig remains stylish until 1810; thereafter it is limited to servants and judicial magistrates. Faces are smooth shaven. The tricorne is now smaller and flatter. The bicorne appears for military dress, eventually passing into civilian use.
