Abstract:
As the period begins, hair is center parted and falls in soft ringlets which frame the face. Back hair is drawn into a bun. Gradually the hair rises. Its height is achieved by wired loops of hair and curls, and the addition of looped ribbons, feathers, and floral arrangements which are positioned asymmetrically. Hair falls toward the end of the period. It is center parted and always covers the ears. Front hair is either drawn smoothly over the ears and into a bun in back or pulled forward and set in sausage curls. A large-brimmed hat is profusely decorated with roses, lace, and ribbon trim. The height of the crown increases to accommodate the new hair styles. For informal day wear lacy caps cover the hair; they are also under the hat. Sometimes for evening the turban is used instead of an elaborate hair arrangement.
