- The doublet crossed at the back to make a V. The varicolored sleeves have wide, turned-back cuffs. In spite of the vertical striping, the effect is strongly horizontal.

- By the High Renaissance long hair is often turned into a pageboy. Normally the face is clean shaven; sometimes older men are in trim beards. Hats are usually small and fitted caps. The turban is still popular.
