Notes:
A side view of the peruke. Face patches or beauty spots are for men and women. This patch is round; there are a number of whimsical shapes, such as stars, half-moons, and flowers. Face patches serve two functions: either to call attention to a particular
Abstract:
At the beginning of the eighteenth century the peruke is fuller than ever. Shortly afterward it is pulled back into the tie wig. There are several variations. In one, hair is confined in a long pigtail or queue, and tied with ribbons at the top and bottom. In the solitaire, hair is confined in a black silk bag, and connecting ribbons are wrapped around the collar. In the toupet, hair is drawn straight back in a pompadour, and curls are arranged just over the ears. Generally all wigs are powdered. The tricorne is the basic hat form. It is edged with braid or lace and trimmed with a cockade. The turban and other night caps are used as long as the head is shaved.
