Notes:
A crown surrounds the pillbox. The barbette fits tightly under the chin. The mantle is characteristically held away from the throat.
Abstract:
The oblong or semicircular mantle is the most common overgarment. New in appearance, it is now attached by a cord running across the chest. In a gesture typical of the period, the cord is held away from the neck with two fingers. Some of the old-style capes remain.
