- Abstract:
- The himation is an overgarment for women and men. Wrapped around the body in a variety of ways, it is a long rectangular shawl, approximately six by nine feet. Sometime it is bordered and patterned. The himation is also used as a blanket. The chlamys, more narrow and shorter than the himation, is a second rectangular overgarment. Its average size is six by three and a half feet. The corners of the fabric are curved.
