Oakland, CA: Aerial view

Notes:
In an urbanizing or urbanized area, there are areas of greater and lesser seismic risk. Sites along stuaries or on soft fill soils and those areas adjacent to active faults, may experience more violent ground shaking: unstable slopes may fail; liquefiable soils my subside or spread. Seismic zonation (micro zonation) is a planning tool to identify relative risk within a region, and to establish mitigation criteria to reduce exposure to losses. (Eisner). Digitized from a set of 35 mm slides from AIA/ACSA Council on Architectural Research; showing details effect of earthquake on building structures.
