- Abstract:
- The chiton, a tunic, is the most basic garment. Also made from a rectangular fabric, it is wrapped around the body, pinned at the shoulders, and with an overfold. For young men it comes to just above the knee; extra fabric is bloused over the girdle. For mature men it is floor length. A second important garment is the colobium (exomis). It consists of two pieces of fabric which are sewn together at the sides, leaving arm and neck openings at the top edge. Pins at one or both shoulders hold it in place. A leather belt encircles the waist.
