- Hair is beautifully wrapped to frame the face.
- Abstract:
- For married women hair is covered or twisted in braids which encircle the head or are arranged in a bun in back. In time the braids are coiled over the ears. A square of white linen is attached at the top of the head and drapes in soft folds under the chin. This is the wimple. Its counterpart, the barbette, is a shaped, circular piece of fine linen which fits under the chin without drapery. Finally, a loose veil is draped over the top of the head, framing the face in white. The chaperone is for travel. For unmarried girls hair is long and loose, and usually bound in a circlet.
