Abstract:
With the exception of the square, padded shoulder line, dress seems to have little shape. The coat fits loosely and has a high lapel. Shirt collars are quite high until 1914. They include both the stand and a round turnover style. Trousers vary in length and width. By 1908 they are creased and often cuffed. Many variations appear in sportswear, including the blazer and Norfolk jackets, sweaters, cardigans, and athletic jerseys. Perhaps the most important change is in the use of fabrics. New to men's dress are tweed, homespun, serge, gray flannel, linen, duck, heavy pongee, and lightweight wool for summer. Tailoring indicates the status of a man.
