Notes:
Marble statue of a youth. Roman copy, 1st century AD, of a Greek original of about 460 BC. This naked youth is a marble copy of a Greek bronze statue, and illustrates characteristic traits of bronze work translated into marble. The tree stump support on the statue's right leg and the strut attaching the left arm to the leg are both additions to the marble version, which was heavier and more fragile than the original. The bronze locks of hair, which would have been individually cast and attached, are imitated in the youth's fringe. Formerly in the Choiseul-Gouffier collection.
