Notes:
Shown in the DeCordova Sculpture Park from 1988-2011 (lent by Maria Therese Di Suvero). Early on, the artist changed the color from orange to yellow. The work is now on view at the UMass Boston campus (between University Drive and the HarborWalk). Completed in 1985 and weighing 15,000 pounds, or seven tons, its cheerful yellow beams are arranged in an artful but playful harmony. It pays homage to one of Di Suvero's favorite artists, Vincent van Gogh, whose paintings of sunflowers are some of the Dutchman’s most famous. It is constructed with both salvaged industrial steel objects, such as a ship's stainless steel propeller, and steel components cut by hand in full scale directly by the artist.
