- A tall headdress with a matching drape under the chin. Black and white are combined with pure colors to create an effect of sobriety and elegance.
- Abstract:
- Paralleling the development of soaring arches in French architecture, headdresses are tall. A variety of forms include the steeple, the butterfly, the heart-shaped headdress, and the horned hennin. No hair is visible with the headdress. Often the head and neck are shaved. Eyebrows are plucked to a fine line or removed entirely. The face has a fragile, porcelain-like appearance. At the center of the forehead is a black velvet loop which is probably wired and attached to the headdress. To soften the line between the headdress and face, transparent veils are placed under and over the headdress. Some veils are four feet long.
