Notes:
Formerly from the Borghèse collection at the Villa Borghèse, purchased by Napoleon I in 1807. The body dates from the second century AD, from Rome. This takes after a type of draped form shown by several Roman sculptures of the first and second centuries. Posed like an orant with arms raised in prayer. Porphyry with restorations in ancient red (rosso antico) and white marble; sandals in ancient green and plinth in ancient yellow Acquired in 1609 by the Cardinal Scipio Borghèse (1576-1623) at which time the first restoration is presumed: the ancient head does not belong to the statue. The work was again restored about 1627 by Vincenzo Moretto and in 1780 by Vincenzo Pacetti. In the refitting of the Villa Borghèse by the Prince Marcantonio IV, the orant appeared in a niche between the two ionic columns, in the Egyptian room.
