Notes:
Monetary note bearing the value of 5 strings threatening decapitation for counterfeiting. It offers a reward of 500 strings for informers--payable in paper money. From the Song-Jin period. The first Chinese paper currency appeared in Chengdu, Sichuan Province c. 1010. By 1023 the government was issuing currency.
