Capellone di S. Nicola: Life of S. Nicholas of Tolentino: Detail

Creator:
Pietro da Rimini, fl. ca. 1324
Date Depicted:
ca. 1307-1348
500 AD - 1499 AD
Notes:
At Tolentino the chapter house of the Augustinian friary of S Nicola da Tolentino also served as a chapel housing a relic of the saint. Three fresco cycles (c. 1340--48) of scenes from the Life of St Nicholas of Tolentino, one of which has been attributed to Giovanni Baronzio, cover all the walls, with a Crucifixion in the usual position, while the vault shows the Evangelists and four Doctors of the Church.--DOA (Source book also cites Pietro da Rimini as a possible artist.)
