Manuscript on vellum of Vulgate Bible. Fine gothic script.
Inscription on flyleaf Ex BBL FF. Min. Pruvin. Marquess of Lothian (sale, Anderson Galleries, 27-28 January 1932, item 4), bought by Philip Brooks. Bookplate of Charles C. Kalbfleisch and Charles J. Rosenbloom. Bequest of Charles J. Rosenbloom, October, 1974.
Although the script is quite different from that of Yale Ms 433 (the Vanderbilt Bible) the illumination is similar. There are occasional marginal notes in Greek, a few in Latin and Hebrew.
Historiated initial at beginning of each book; illuminated initial before each prologue; other initials in red and blue penwork; headings in red and blue.
Binding: Red morocco, gilt, lined with blue silk with gilt dentelle borders, by Bozerian Jeune.
