Sack catalogue description: Pilgrim oak and pine Bible box, the front carved with intersecting lunettes, leaf and fleur-de-lis with stipple background; the pine top has serrated edges on the side and is secured on the original quartered oak cleats with original rose headed nails that hinge from a dowel extension of the back, the box has the warm, mellow color of American light oak that has never been disturbed, this original aspect is highly prized by collectors of Pilgrim furniture and is rarely found. This box can be compared with examples by Thomas Dennis of Ipswich, Massachusetts.
