Sack catalogue description: Octagonal box with academy decoration, the lid decorated with a marine landscape bordered by sea anemones, the case decorated with musical, floral and marine motifs; the rear is inscribed, "Sarah E. North, April 10, 1834." Sarah North was most likely a student at an all-female academy, or early girls' boarding school, where women learned domestic pursuits such as sewing, painting, and music-making.
