- Sack catalogue description: Hepplewhite San Domingan mahogany inlaid Pembroke table, oval top with concave molded border, the bowed frame of conforming shape has a drawer in one end flanked by book-inlaid panels; the bellflower inlay with black spine and etching, inlaid cuffs, choice bronze patina. A paper label affixed to the table reads, "Made by John Townsend, Newport, 1797." The following tables labeled by John Townsend show the same distinctive bellflower inlay: a dining table in the collection of the Rhode Island Historical Society, and a demilune card table in the Winterthur Museum; the structural bracing is also the same as that on several labeled tables by John Townsend. This is the only labeled example of this form.
