Notes:: Sack catalogue description: Queen Anne mahogany claw-and-ball foot side chair, bold shell centering bowed crest rail, vase-shaped splat of pierced pattern with diamond center; balloon seat, cabriole legs with shell and floral-carved knees ending in finely sculptured claw-and-ball feet with swept-back side talons, turned stretchers with block and bulbous turned medial stretcher; mellow old patina. The retracted talons, typical on Massachusetts examples, are rare on a Rhode Island example; a chair of this set is in the Rhode Island Historical Society, illustrated in Kirk, American Chairs, pl. 180.
