- Sack catalogue description: Queen Anne San Domingan mahogany porringer-top tea table, mellow brown patina, the refinement of this table and the choice mahogany employed indicate the work of a master craftsman; the top is joined by cleats through the frame on the underside, a favorite technique of John Goddard. An amusing history on the underside of the table is reproduced below: "Property of Colonel Augustus Mumford – First Rhode Island Regiment belonged to the thirty six foot Mumfords each of six brothers over six feet height: His head (?) showing above the ramparts was taken off by a cannonball. He married Ruth – she ran a needle into her finger during the battle of Bunker Hill (she in Providence) and exclaimed "There my Augustus is dead." And he was shot by His brother John M. Abigail Brenton. They were my gr. gr. parents. John Memford was handsomest man in New England, a gay Lothario Intemperate deserted his wife, finally found dead under Arnolds Bridge just outside Providence, drowned or drunk? no one knew – Richard Ward Greene Welling, 6 chairs (fiddle back) go with this table."
