- Sack catalogue description: Pilgrim cherry or red gum folding trestle table, drop leaves of circular outline, the top is supported on pine block; the bold ball and ring-turned supports are dovetailed to the block and mortised into the ogival-shaped trestle shoe feet, the shoes are joined by a horizontal plank and the gates are simple vertical and horizontal slats, the leaves are fastened with the original butterfly hinges; the patina is the original with three centuries of maturity adding to its character and mellowness. According to family tradition, this table was owned by General Philip Schuyler and was used by him as a field table during the Revolutionary Battle of Ticonderoga; a more recent owner has scribed his initials and the date "1876" on the table's 200th birthday. Ex-collection Mrs. Lauriston Walsh, Corning, New York; ex-collection Israel Sack, Inc., 1938. Exhibited in "New York Furniture," Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1934; a virtually identical example from Scotia, New York is illustrated in New York Furniture Before 1840 in the Collection of the Albany Institute of History and Art, pl. 2.
